SHOP UPDATE // The Hausse
We’ve teased a bit, we’ve had conversations about possibly becoming something more. It’s official. We are going through a BIG transformation at Java Mama and here’s the who/what/where/when/why, q&a style, and everything you need to know as a customer and community member. …and here’s a sneak peek of our new brand’s mood board.
Why are we rebranding Java Mama?
What began as just coffee, pastries, and indoor play quickly evolved to more. As our menu grew, we hoped to ensure that our name fit our goals. We are so much more than just coffee and play. The potential to build out an extended menu, with wholesome, organic, and local ingredients, gave us an opportunity to fill a gap in our small town for more than just families with young children. So we’re rebranding to what feels more like us, what fits our goals, and to what feels like home.
What’s the reason behind the new name?
The Hausse, french for rise, means so much to us for many reasons. Family owned, we all come from a cajun-french background. The symbolic meaning of the word Hausse kept our hearts central to purpose and our faith to rise. The rooster, with many biblical references, became our logo for its symbolism to the rising sun and a steadfast faith in a new day and what that means.
Although the word Hausse means to rise, we love that the word looks, feels, and is pronounced like the word house. Homebodies at heart, we want both our place and our meals to feel like something mama is cooking up - something that feels like home. So the new name, The Hausse, just felt good in all the right ways.
…and the Rooster’s name is Ollie.
What is changing from Java Mama to The Hausse?
THE MISSION:
Nothing is changing here. We’re the same faces behind the name change. Sarah and Hope (hi) are still the owners along side our dream team of Josh and David running the show. Our concept of being a family-oriented escape is still our number one goal. We simply want to incorporate more of what we’re already doing and more of what our hearts are tugging at. We’re constantly evolving into what is needed. …and we think the experience of dining out with family needs to be more about the sense of blend. That’s why we’ve got an indoor play area, so your little ones can blend dinner time with play time (because it’s hard for those toddlers to sit still through a whole meal).
PLAY & MEMBERSHIPS:
We will still have our play area, but we have separated out a small section to incorporate more seating for families that have asked us to create space for them. This allows a part of the play area to be dedicated to dining. As parents ourselves, we love the idea of allowing a place for your kiddos to not feel as restricted when it comes to sit-down dinners. Because the play area is a bit smaller, we are reducing the price of the play passes and our play memberships. Our play memberships will no longer be accompanied by discounts. The honest truth is that, in this economic climate, we can no longer provide the discounted options.
Our new membership will only cost $6.00/month ($3.00 for each additional kiddo). Our membership fees all go towards hosting free events throughout the year, like our book mobile, our Halloween Hop, as well as replacing items through the play area. We appreciate you helping us provide an amazing atmosphere for our kiddos and grown-ups who love ‘em.
If you’re a current member of ours, don’t worry. All of this will be taken care of for you. This change will take place on May 1st. You’ll receive an email notification before May 1st.
WHAT’S NEW:
We’re thinking about reopening for dinner, at least on the weekends. Stay tuned for that. We’re also in the midst of developing a cocktail menu. Nothing major, this is all still family oriented …think mimosas, bloody marys, and brunch style cocktails. Now THAT feels like home. Along with our play area for kiddos, we want to incorporate more play and fun for our grown-ups. We love the idea of launching a series of workshops (bread making, floral arranging, painting, etc.) for our grown ups to come, sip wine or your drink of choice, and just have a little fun.
How has the rise in pricing and the offset of Covid affected The Hausse (and Java Mama)?
We started scheming to open Java Mama in 2019, not knowing at all the hardships of the coming years that would be placed on top of the normal grit and grind any new business would require. A lot of the changes we’ve made have been to not only to keep up with our customers and what our community needs, but to come out on top of the economic climate we’re all living in right now.
It certainly hasn’t been easy, but when we look at the big picture, we really do see ourselves on the other side of this foundational work we’re doing and thriving in our community.
We have such an amazing community that wants to support the local shops over our corporate competition. We’re incredible grateful for the grace we’ve been given. Every business has experienced price increases, labor shortages, and just about every other hiccup in the road …and our community has been incredibly supportive of us, remembering that we’re humans and faces behind this name, as we navigate all the moving parts of this industry in this economy.
